The first fabric I ever bought was a Liberty Tanalawn Cotton purchased from Forsyth’s in Edinburgh. I made a 3 tiered skirt with lace petticoat which was the envy of all my friends. I was 17 years old, more than just a few years ago, so fashion design has been in my blood for a long time.
Elizabeth Martin Tweed was launched so that I could fulfill my dream of working with British fabrics. The brand uses only British fabrics with heritage, following the passion of keeping textile manufacturing in Britain alive.
My designs are for real women who like to dress with individual style. If I can trigger that feeling of standing ten feet tall and bursting with confidence, then I will have succeeded.
I like my garments to fill a role, my Cora coat, well it’s my cuddle blanket. When I wrap myself up in it, I feel instant comfort and reassured, I feel stylish and I’m ready to face the day. My obsession was and still is the importance of ‘quality and detailed finish using the finest textiles’.
I feel so passionate about British Textile Manufacture and the hard endeavours of businesses, every day, trying to get their skills and crafts out there. We have a wealth of great craftsmanship and unique talent in Britain that should be embraced and shouted about from the roof tops.
The Elizabeth Martin brand is minimal and represents my love of modern contemporary design for women who are individuals. We believe in protecting our footprint on earth and invest in life long elegance. Elizabeth Martin is proud to support the Circular Economy and have 100% traceability. We know where our fabric is manufactured, who makes each garment and work hand in hand with our team at every stage.
My proudest moment as a designer, thus far, is the realisation that through handwork and determination and a good dose of self-belief, anything is possible.
